INDUSTRY OF INNOVATIONS (Maximum 10 Weeks) • Create and/or innovate something (thing/process/idea) • Make someone’s life better, not worse • Incorporating nature principals into solution • Challenge you to learn something new about yourself and our environment Deliverables: • Log of daily progress/setbacks etc. • Mockup (non-functioning model) • Create Kickstarter Campaign • Digital representation of solution BRAINSTORMING: Don’t you hate it when: the alarm clock goes off in the morning, you get homework I hate it when: I stub my toe on furniture, hit my funny-bone I dislike: riding the bus to school, geometry, foreign languages, charging my phone, essays, research reports, cold weather, snow, shoveling, mowing the lawn, being hungry, being tired, slow internet, not having Wi-Fi, listening to people complain, bad grades I find it difficult to: pay attention in geometry, wake up in the morning I wish: I didn’t live in New York, school didn’t exist, I didn't get homework I think: school is stupid I wonder: what it’d be like to be a trillionaire/billionaire/millionaire I like: Fridays, double-gym weeks, weekends, fast food, Seattle Mariners, Miami Heat, New York Giants, Kansas Jayhawks, Ichiro Suzuki, LeBron James, NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA, Xbox, NBA 2K14, vacations, Florida, warm weather, summer, baseball, basketball, football, snow days, gym, advisement, not having homework, fast internet, having Wi-Fi, good grades, spending time with family, music WHAT I LIKE: (1) Baseball (2) Basketball (3) Xbox (4) Music (5) Family WHAT I DISLIKE: (1) School (2) Homework (3) Winter (4) Shoveling (5) Mowing the lawn The students of the Brockport High School are sick and tired of receiving hours of homework throughout the course of their academic school careers. Students are to be held responsible to complete hours of homework after being held captive in a school for 7-8 hours, to then complete the day after. The studies of Stanford show that homework causes the student to experience greater stress, reductions in health, and less time for friends, family and extracurricular pursuits. Shoveling snow has became a major issue in the state of New York. The harsh winters bring tons of snow that are then needed to be shoveled out of driveways and sidewalks, which becomes a problem for the elderly as well as the regular day person.
